The weather was beautiful this weekend in the Maryland/DC area and I managed to maximize outdoor time. Saturday I did a 43 mile biking loop, starting in Westminster and passing through a number of classic small towns: Union Bridge, Uniontown, Keysville, Detour and Taneytown. I tried a different route for the final 6 miles returning from Uniontown, which took me onto unpaved roads through Jasontown for a bit of gravel riding.
Afterwards, I stopped in Westminster at my favorite coffee roaster, Furnace Hills Coffee Company, and picked up a pound of their freshly roasted Soldier's Blend beans.
On Sunday, Jim decided to join Carl and I in hiking so we took him on an old favorite, a 6 mile long loop on the trail system around Woodstock, MD. We headed up to the quarry (above) and then west towards Marriottsville, getting passed by many mountain bikers enjoying the fine weather.
That section of trail goes by an abandoned car (a '57 Chevy? Are there any old cars that aren't '57 Chevies??) that someone had decided to decorate for Halloween.
Pretty elaborate and very clever - much more creative than the typical level of vandalism seen previously.
