The Fleet now consists of three boats:
I bought the original Old Town canoe about 20 years ago and used it on the Potomac and local reservoirs. It now resides in Lusby, Maryland at a friends house. Here is a picture of he and I paddling it:
You can see more pictures of Chris and I, and a few others, at the official OMBT site. If that makes you realize you are already really bored with this boating crap, you can check out this site, which shows what real men do on their tenth anniversary.
Anyway, I never really got that excited about canoing - it was really slow, a pig in the wind, and essentially useless with just one person in it.
Shortly after loaning Chris the canoe, his brother in law gave him a kayak as repayment for an earlier gift of Chris's old truck. I biked down to Chris's house and he and I went out in the kayak - and I was hooked.
So, quick like a bunny I found that the very nice people at Atlantic Kayak had used Ookpik kayaks for sale. So, I now paddle a 13 foot one with a rudder and two cargo hatches, along with PFD and paddle.
Coincidentally, my wife and her girlfriends went on a kayak tour/lesson with Potomac Paddlesports and they had a good sale on used Zydeco's - 9'6" plastic kayak that Carole had paddled on her tour of Blackwater River. Another PFD and paddle for her and the fleet was complete.
It was a bit late in the year for Carole to want to paddle, but I did sneak a few paddles in on Rocky Gorge Reservoir, Mataponi Creek, and the Patuxent River. Coming in February and March will be some kayak lessons and we should be all set for the 2007 season.
