Excusing current infractions of our liberties by pointing to past infractions is not an effective syllogism. Sure, someone who worked for the Secret Service had at some point to accept spying on citizens as a necessary evil. But all government intrusions on our lives grow without bound unless their is a loud and politically impactful response.
Somehow the income tax went from a tax on the very wealthiest to a confiscatory tax on everyone in just 70 years.
Warrantless phone taps have already evolved in to mass snooping on data transmissions. Information technology can and will be abused to encroach on our liberty.
Loud protests are needed in response. Not level headed analysis and seeing both sides. Support the EFF!
